One Piece Continuous Halyard/Retrieval line

Class rules now allows a one piece halyard and retrieval line. Most boats have converted to this because it alleviates the problem of a retrieval line snagging during the hoist.  The one piece halyard/retrieval line works great!

Separate Retrieval Line

Retreival Line Take Up ReelIf you are still using a separate retrieval line, coiling up a separate spinnaker retrieval line can result in a tangle as the chute goes up. The best way to avoid this is a retractable clothesline cord reel. The most popular model is the Butts Model R400 Sunline retractable clothesline. (available online from Ace Hardware). Either cut off the clothesline close to the end and tie on the retrieval line with a sheet bend or open up the casing and dead-end the line to the spool (but its hard to re-close the casing). With a 5/32" (4 mm) retrieval line, about 40' of it will fit on the spool - larger diameters fit less.  We  use a cam cleat to remove all tension from the cord in light air. We removed one of the screws for the motor mount and mounted the unit there.

Our best recommendation is to convert to the one piece continuous halyard/retrieval line.
