News on Brian Bennett - The Viper's Designer | Print |
Written by Justin Scott
Brian designed and developed the Viper between 1995 and 1997. He was the class builder until 1999 and subsequently returned to New Zealand. He keeps in touch with the Viper class in the US, and recently sent us an email with the news that his son Hayden and he won the New Zealand Flying Fifteen National Championships.

One of the reasons Brian returned to New Zealand in 2000 so that his young family could spend time with his and Rachel's families. They live near Nelson on South Island..He thought it would be fun for him and his son Hayden to enter the FF nationals together so they scraped together an older boat. You can detect how thrilled he was to be sailing with Hayden........in his own words:-

How is everything? Just wanted to update you on the latest.
Hayden (my boy) and I just won the NZ Flying Fifteen Nationals, and have been selected to go to the worlds in Spain in June. Did not imagine winning. Just brought an older FF and thought we would do the Nationals.
He adds that if he comes to Spain:-
We are looking at the potential of coming to New England for a week. This would be the 3-4th week in June. I don't know if the Vipers have anything going on, but would be great to catch up, see the new boats and go for a sail. It is still my favorite boat of all time and it is tremendous that the class is growing again.
