The deadline for complying with the retrofitted keel bulb rule is May 30th 2008.
In accordance with the poll taken in December 2006 it was agreed that all existing boats that upgraded to Carbon masts will have to retrofit their keel with the heavier bulb. It was also agreed that there would be a transition period of at least one year for all boats with aluminum masts to retrofit their keels. The technical committee has now set a date of May 30, 2008 for ALL boats to comply with a rule requiring a heavier keel bulb. From May 30, 2008 onwards, all Vipers participating in Class Sanctioned regattas or in fleets where the local fleet requires adherence with class rules, must have retrofitted the new class keel bulb. The new, heavier keel enables the Viper to comply with the self righting standard defined by the international stability and buoyancy standard ISO 12217. A class legal Viper meets this standard from this date. The cost of retrofit bulb molds manufactured by Rondar is $70.00 per boat and can be ordered through the class association. Please notify John McCormack (Class Treasurer) if you require a set of molds.
